BIG HATS SITTING AT STUDENTS´ DESKS!!
Yeeeeees, life has always got a revelation in store for everyone...
This is a true photo taken in a classroom where Malena, Mónica and Marina and Silvia, among other EFL teachers in the area, are sitting for an International Examination, reminding themselves of the good old days..., and of the importance and the need to go on being students, despite age and experience, which is never enough...smiley

Great example of professionalism to follow !!!

Shareable times

Even though I am an advocate of blogging, the lapse of time there is between postings in this blog clearly proves it's difficult to keep a periodic pace publishing.

But there are times when momentous experiences urge your updating, when life comes up with the unexpected, which, either for the better or for the worse, is always the case. And there are also those turning points which you do not feel like making public, which you need to keep to yourself. Or maybe which you´d choose to put up in another kind of blog you have opened for yourself as a kind of diary to indulge in later in life.

This one is the most shareable of all. The one I guess will be of more interest to readers, to colleagues, to friends. It's the least complex, the most factual, the lightest, the most enjoyable, perhaps. And certainly the happiest of all.

I jotted down this entry as I watched 17 colleagues answer a Professional Development Test at Cultura. And I'll immediately post a more objective reflection on this day...
They were all writing as I pencilled what I am typing now for the web to share.

Still, there may also be a third layer of thoughts which are hiddenly stored inside. Those are the ones you only share with yourself, and only at times...., if ever. Those that you'd rather be thankful to forget.
And those, why not, too personal to share, but which you'll cherish for good, hoping they'll stick to your memory until the end of your days...., very gratefully admitting no one can read your mind...

A PIPE DREAM COMING TRUE
December 17, 2006 07:17 AM PST

More than the kind of blog that all bloggers open to keep track of their everyday dreams and deeds, this one is the place I resort to when big emotions overwhelm me with joy...

After around 5 years of meeting online, sharing opinions and ideas, experiences, findings and discussions, plus photos and voices..., many Webheads will be meeting at the TESOL Convention in Seattle, next March.

Getting together with John, Vance, Tere, Nina, Leanne, Aiden, Tom Robb, and hopefully many others who are trying to make it from different parts of the world will certainly be a landmark in my life.

The mere thought of it, the preparations we are into through messages and chats are all adding to the joy it will mean seeing each other f2f and sharing what will be an unforgettable time together.

I'm getting ready for thousands of photos!

COMING SOON....!

They are coming soon. They feel my life with joy and happiness. They'll be near me in a month. I'll be able to squeeze them!!!!

GLOBAL LEARN DAY TEN
October 23, 2006 08:45 AM PDT

An unimaginable experience. Unforgettable. A pipe dream made real. That was Global Day Ten, the worldwide event John Hibbs created for educators and technologists from all corners of the world, to speak from their homes and their working places on the use of technology in education. It was a moving pleasure to hear people from India, from Africa and the isle of Guam talk with audiences made up of volunteers, ready to share their own views and hopes.
It was enriching, it was enlightening, it was fun. In fact, no words could express my gratitude to John, for having given me the chance to participate in such event as a moderator for Latin America. I could hardly control my emotions as I realized my voice was reaching friends and colleagues from afar.
How can people dare say the computer alienates people? How could I have posssibly met so many likeminded teachers from Europe and Asia and the States and how could I have possibly spoken with them in real time had it not been for the computer?

John is a visionary, a forerunner, a generous mentor, a helpful, thoughtful true friend. My hat off to you, John Hibbs!

Here she is, sweet, clever, cuddly, beautiful. Not a tango, but background music. A waltz at times, a swirl of joyous pranks, a soothing melody at others. A wealth of joy. A promising life tentacle of mine, in the distance.
Emma is a balm from Connecticut. She's inside me.

MY LISBON EXPERIENCE A YEAR AGO

In January 2005 we travelled to Portugal and I met there f2f a great friend of mine, Teresa D'Eça, another Webhead with whom I have been sharing years of work and friendship.
It was an unforgettable experience sharing talks, tours, meals and friends during our stay in Lisbon.
I made a photostory to celebrate, to remember more vividly those days that will never leave our memory.

A tour round Rosario in the 80´s
August 21, 2006 07:00 AM PDT
itunes pic

After many years in which part of the history of Rosario was silenced since it was related with the times of legal prostitution, a new outlook on this stage gave way to an unprecedented step taken by local authorities: that of integrating a "shameful" period into the true history of our city.

A parade of old carriages and people dressed up in the fashion of those times --1911-1933-- were the background to the story an informed guide told the audience that had gathered in the neighbourhood where 80 years ago brothels were part of men´s lives in the Argentinian machist society. The existing maffia, backed by the law, imported beautiful girls from European countries, who were made to work in these brothels, for the benefit of malevolent "exploiters".

Here´s a photo of Madame Safo´s brothel, a well-known character who administered and controlled the place for male owners.
In 1933 all brothels were closed, but some of them went on working clandestinely.

Tango dancing in the streets

We´ve been seeing Rosario with Annette with visitors' eyes. And we were lucky to watch a celebration in a neighbourhood where, 80 years ago, brothels were part of men´s life. A guide showed us in as we toured what now is a public attraction, while telling us the history of prostitution in the "Chicago Argentina".

A beloved English friend visits Rosario

And now it is my turn to play the hostess..., with the enriching company of Monica, another good friend I have the joy to share work with... And Malena, with whom I have also shared many years of solid friendship....

Annette Capel, who lives in wonderful Cambridge, has come to give a talk here in Rosario, but, mainly, to visit. She loves our place, since her mom was born here, and her affectionate nature and cheerful disposition has enhanced our daily life for a week now...

Last night we took Annette out on a tango spree..., she could sense the spirit of the music and watch couple dance in a local, non-touristic atmosphere.

Friendship. That is all life is about, if it's to be fully appreciated. Nothing compares to the bliss of choosing likeminded people to enjoy all the range of adventures life comes up with every single day.

Meeting another dear friend

Meeting "online" friends f2f

Meeting dear friend Ruth in Helsinki was one of the highlights of my trip.

Being abroad
August 09, 2006 03:37 PM PDT

Being abroad broadens one's mind and one´s horizons.
After visiting Moscow and St Petersburg, Helsinki, Stockholm and Copenhagen the wealth of experience added makes everyday life more precious.
And meeting friends f2f, after some time sharing information and online adventures, enlarges the feeling.

First Ruth, then Susan, two encounters that made us --hubby and me-- still richer.

What does this have to do with the tango, I myself wonder. It's the stirring of feelings that listening and dancing shares with visiting new places and with meeting dear friends, the elation they all trigger to then stay inside forever.
As Keats, the famous English poet said, " A thing of beauty is a joy forever"..., music and deeply enjoyed experiences are both things of beauty...

I feel so happy and privileged!

April 05, 2006 08:04 AM PDT

Learning to dance the tango is marvelous! Feeling the rhytm and realizing that the efforts made to be able to imitate what teachers do are not in vain..., gives me a thrilling sensation of satisfaction...

Besides, this "tango boom" in Argentina is a very curious phenomenon. For about 50 years the tango was ignored in this culture. Young people listened to pop music both national and international, and those few who stuck to the traditional tango were looked upon with a kind of "derision". It was an old-fashion habit of elderly people.

Fifty years later, fashions have changed, coinciding with architecture: no longer are "antique" buildings pulled down to leave place to the modern, but they are refurbished and much appreciated. Thesame has happened with the tango. There are tango shows, tango teachers and tango lesons all over the place. People from neighbouring countries come to Buenos Aires monthly for tango lessons... There are fixed "milongas" (such the name of bars and cafes where tango can be danced) for each day of the week, sometimes with live orchestras and singers. Dancers of all ages can be seen on dancing pits performing elegantly and weirdly. But the most curious custom observed in this end of the world is the fact that these new sources of gathering people only start at 10 pm. Some people arrive still later, to stay up to 2 am next morning.
I always wonder how they manage to work next day. To me, it's a sheer miracle.
